The newly renovated £12.5 million West Bromwich Leisure Centre, which opened on time and to budget in June 2014, comprises a 25m pool, learner pool, sauna and steam room, a four-court sports hall, fitness suite, dance studios, indoor cycling studio, dedicated children’s adventure/soft play area and a café.
The main contractor, Pellikaan Construction, who specialise in leisure centre development, worked closely with Places for People Leisure, a leading leisure and wellness partner, chosen by Sandwell Council to design, build, run, and maintain the leisure centre. Local involvement was an important factor for this DBOM project, and collaboration with the council’s organisation ‘Think Local’ enabled Pellikaan to optimise local involvement, with a good 70% of works subcontracted locally.
Central Fabrications worked on this project from Oct 2013 – June 2014, supplying high quality fascia panels, manufactured to the highest specification, helping to create a seamless look and consistently elegant design.
Fascia panels were installed vertically beneath the roofing edge, forming the surface of the building’s outer cornice, with standard soffit systems, the horizontal equivalent to facias, installed not only for visual effect but also as a functional weatherproof seal. Together, they formed an essential element of the commercial rainwater system, helping to protect the outer edges of the building façades and support the guttering system. Both are used heavily within architecture.
